Some Knock You Down…Others Pick You Up. Weymouth’s Wonderful Community.

As you might know from the lengthy ramblings on our Radipole gardens Face Book pages and a sizeable piece in the Dorset Echo this week. Our beautiful Radipole Gardens was hit during late last Saturday night by some mindless person/people, who for some unknown reason left a trail of damage through our beautiful gardens. The main notice board took the biggest hit...

People Share Some Wonderful Memories

We often get links and pieces sent to us via our site and we appreciate every single one of them. They all add to our archives and enrich our living history. Such was the case last week when this wonderful piece popped up in my mails, though sadly no e-mail address with it to thank the sender. Below is what I received as it was written. I have added a couple of photos for those who are too young to remember it as it was or maybe like myself need something to jogs zee leettle grey cells as Poirot was fond of reciting. *** 'William Craven & The...

They Came… They Saw… They Cut, Created and Carved in Radipole gardens.

The sun shone down on us last Saturday, though the wind was a bit parky to say the least. But that didn't stop families coming out to enjoy our latest event put on in the gardens. Halloween Hoolie and Cider Apple Pressing. As time drew nearer to the event start, we were all set up and waiting, wondering if many people would be coming along on such a brisk day. We needn't have worried...

There’s One Heck of a Hoolie in Radipole Gardens; Halloween Hoolie and Cider Apple Pressing.

Well, it's that time of year again! Autumn is tugging at summer's sleeve, begging her to relinquish her grip on time. Worry not though we have a couple of events left in our calender. What would October be without a mention of all things Halloween. We've got that sorted. Saturday 27th October come along to Radipole gardens for our HALLOWEEN HOOLIE  and CIDER APPLE PRESSING. The first 20 children to arrive will find a pumpkin waiting for its makeover. Lots of bits and bobs to make your own Halloween decorations...

Discovering Images of Radipole Gardens Lost Past

Some might think that an odd title seeing as the gardens were only created during the 1930's, but if you're fan of good old Tony Robinson and Time Team, you'll know that sometimes it's easier to research, read and know more about centuries ago than it is our more recent history! Radipole park and gardens were created during the 1930's, a period between two World Wars, also a period of austerity and high unemployment. Schemes had been set up by the government of the day to enable councils to take advantage of cheap rate loans  to employ many of those men and women who were unable...

Success; Radipole Gardens Goes All Out in True Patriotic WWII style.

Well, that's the final big event of our year done and dusted and boy did we go out with bloody big bang in true patriotic WWII style! Greeting the crowds coming to our event was this Big Beast shown below. This monster vehicle was parked out in the tennis club car park (sadly minus the even bigger tracked beast who would have been on her back had she not blown something to do with oil.)  She guzzled approx £100 in fuel for owner Colvyn Gillmon just to get here here from Dorchester! Though our 1940's Big Fun Day was a cracking success, of course that only happens...

Fascinating; Discover Radipole Park & Gardens links to WWI and WWII

Discover Radipole Park & Gardens links to WWI and WWII In a couple of weeks time we will be hosting our annual Big Fun Day, only this year is a very special one. Last winter we received the exciting news that we had got though stage I of or £1,4000,000 Parks for People Heritage Lottery Bid. That's no mean feat either. It has taken our Chair, Mike Goulden literally thousands of hours of work to put together our submission, working alongside members of W&P borough council. It ended in a humungous volume of facts, figures, history of, social history, ecological study...

Nurture Nature and Welcome Wildlife to Weymouth

Our next event is one that is packed with something for people of all ages and all interests in nature and wildlife. Not only how we can help them but they help us.
