Plant Sale 2022. Excited; A New Year and it’s Time To Sow.
Well the year has begun very kindly to us weather wise, so not sure if making a start on sowing in the greenhouse is wise or tempting fate!
The cuttings taken in autumn are already sprouting some healthy looking roots.
Each year we have a plant sale to raise funds for the gardens, but the last couple of years have been difficult as Covid scuppered most of our events, resulting in having to sell plants from our drive. Seemingly I’m now known as plant lady!
In fact it worked quite well, and ended up with over £300 in total going towards our funds.
Consequently we’re going to do the same this year, (P.S. Not told hubby yet that he’ll have to move encroaching said plants to reverse out of drive again.)
The sowing has begun, taking care to protect emerging seedlings from slugs, mice, and any manner of hungry munching mouths or leaping cats.
Potting up carries on apace.
The veggies seem to go quickly last year, I’ll be beefing up on those.
Annuals flew off the shelf, or should that be ground?
Perennials were popular, problem was when asked I could never remember their names! Any other time and they’d trip off my tongue like a Saturday afternoon football pundit’s commentary, “GOAL!”
We’re also be starting to raise and divide plants for our new Sensory garden, working to the planting list by Michelle Brown on her design she so kindly drew up for us.
We might be looking for a few community volunteers to help in that when we’ve sat down and worked out what’s what.
So keep those green fingers at the ready and an eye open for the triffid invasion.
