Queen’s Jubilee Tree; Baby Willow Joins the Royal Family; Radipole Gardens.

Well, for poor Nikki Latham from Chesil Radio, the start to her day couldn’t have been any wetter as she attended the Queen’s Jubilee Tree planting in Radipole gardens, there to report on such regal matters.

The gardeners, well equipped in their all weather gear, as they prepared the hole for the garden’s youngest willow.

All it needed was Mayor, Cllr. Colin Huckle and his Lady Mayoress, both arrived suitably adorned with Weymouth’s ceremonial jewels, fit for such royal proceedings.

 

 

Sadly, their admiring crowd was on the small size, the Friends being tied up with a meeting on the park and garden’s Lottery works, and bad weather no doubt deterring others.

 “Weymouth Town Council is organising a tree planting ceremony in support of the Queen’s Green Canopy project, an initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to

“Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

The willow has been selected by the council’s parks team to help reintroduce the weeping willow walk following the natural decline of willow trees in the gardens over some years.

 

 

Cllr Colin Huckle, Mayor of Weymouth said: “I’m delighted to be involved with this initiative which celebrates the Queen’s 70-year reign of our nation while also enhancing the environment for future generations. The event will be a poignant occasion, as Friday 11^th March 2022 is the seventieth day of the year in which the Queen marks the seventieth anniversary of her accession.

 

 

“It’s also fantastic that this will help to reintroduce the Radipole Park Gardens weeping willow walk which has been enjoyed by many throughout the years.”

 

 

So it was a very wet welcome from the historic willow family for this young sapling, but at least she got off to a good soaking.
