And the Band Played On; Weymouth Concert Brass Band
I can’t believe we are already over half way through the year!
Summer is finally upon us, delicious warmth on face, birds music-making in the trees and it’s time to drag out and brush off those picnic baskets.
What better way to spend a hot summer’s day than lying in the dappled shade of our willows, liquid refreshment in hand, those scrummy fresh scones, cream and jam just beckoning you from our tea tent…be dammed to those dastardly calories!
Past generations have always retreated to their nearest local parks for musical entertainments. It was how they socialised, decked out in their best finery, strolling the pathways, showing off that latest hat from Paris or silk parasol from India.
The ornate bandstands a draw, with resident bands entertaining patrons with their lively tunes, often highly talented visiting military musicians.
We might not be able to boast such a bandstand but we can certainly provide traditional (and more modern) music in the form of Weymouth’s wonderful Concert Brass Band who’ll be performing on the Princess Diana oval on Sunday 14th July 2-4pm.
The gardens are not only looking particularly spectacular at the moment but they smell heavenly.
Along with the musical entertainment we’ll also be there with our Heritage & Consultation Tent, chockablock with images of Weymouth through the 20th century.
Come see those shops you once frequented, cafe’s and Weymouth’s hot spots where you spent your misspent youth, whiling away time with friends, and lots more old images besides.
It might jog a few happy memories of your own.
See you all there between 2-4pm. It’s FREE Entry.
