The Great Murder Mystery of Radipole Sensory Garden
Murder Mystery Radipole Sensory Garden
As volunteers who look after the Sensory garden, we’re used to finding all manner of items when we go to work there.
From the ubiquitous take away wrappers, to cigarette butts, dog poo bags and even strange things like a broken fairy hidden in amongst the plants.
(Think that must have been related to our fairy trail, where children enjoy searching for their little doors and windows.)
Well, last week was a new one on us.
Hot afternoon, late in the day, park was quiet when I noticed a mum and baby staring at the fountain bowl we’d just put in, birds have certainly been grateful for it during this hot spell.
Popped down to check everything was o.k.
She pointed to a clawed foot with bones attached.
A few more curious people joined us, and after some head scratching, the general consensus was it belonged, or once belonged, to a moorhen from the lake that runs alongside our park.
Probably predated by a fox or something similar, who’d had their fill and decided to leave the leg and claws.
Last seen being finished off by a large bird!
Note to self, must install a wildlife camera to see what else takes place (animal wise) under the cover of darkness.
Sorry for the quality of the bird photo, every time I’ve tried to capture them, they’ve flown off.
So if you happen to snap something enjoying the water please grab a shot and send it to us on our FB page, we’d love to keep a record of the wildlife that visits our space.
