2020; Lottery Bid Presentation & The Year We Realise the Importance of Green Spaces

Hands up, I'll admit to having deserted my scribings on our website over the last few months. It's been a hard one to focus on, hence most of our postings have been on our Facebook page. The year 2020 has been one hell of a ride so far. We are all living through something previously unimaginable, life changing, that'll go down in world history much the same as the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918. As far as our Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens committee are concerned it has been a bit of an unknown. Watching and waiting for news of lockdown/slow release/ things permitted/possibility of...

Helping Hands are Always Welcome; Asda’s Green Tokens.

We've just crossed another wonderful event off our list. Last Sunday's Band in the Park was well attended, despite not only fierce competition from other large events in the area but also numerous, not to be missed, sporting finals on tv! But as ever, we can't rest on our laurels, it's onwards and upwards with our fund raising for the Sensory garden, even more important as it's only a couple of months away before the ground works start! Events held in our gardens aren't the only way we raise money, we also look to any grants available and various schemes whereby we can add to our coffers. Over...

Sorry Folks CANCELLED. Lace & Wool Create a Great Day Out:

So sorry that we have had to cancel our annual jolly for reasons beyond our control, but fear not, we will be back again next year with another gardens packed day next year. What better time of year for a coach trip to glorious Devon than June? First a short stop in Tiverton, whose history reaches way back into the depths of time. This area being occupied right from the Stone Age, through the reign of King Alfred's Wessex, Normans and their castle building, Middle Ages and prosperity with the wool trade. The Heatcote factory still manufactures specialist textiles here. Afterwards we  head for Knightshayes Court. Both sites have...

Warning!; Wet & Windy Weather; Radipole Park 1955-2012

Wet & Windy Weather. I spend some of my time researching old images, and often come across real gems, albeit  by mistake. (Also makes it very hard not to go off on a tangent!) Such was the case over the weekend when someone posted a wonderful photo of old Weymouth. Intrigued I hastened over to the site and uncovered a wealth of Weymouth images going way back in history. Prompted by todays less than springtime weather, I though these very apt.     Flooding of Radipole Park Drive in 1955. The only reason I remember this date is because it was the year I was born and my Mum always...

Take a Walk on the Wildside; Fun and Frolics in Radipole Gardens

Things are coming together nicely now for our next event in Radipole Gardens on Saturday 4th May 11-3pm.   Working in partnership with Natural Choices, Stepping into Nature and Active Ageing our wildlife event this year is going to be bigger and better. It's long been known that time spent in the great outdoors has many benefits. Communing with nature, wildlife and a bit of tree hugging never did anyone any harm. In fact it's been proven to be not only beneficial for our physical but also mental health. This years event has so much to offer people of all ages, all interests and activity levels and its free...
