Your Opinions Matter on Wildlife in Radipole Park and Gardens

As part of our lottery bid, because of course its something very close to our hearts anyway, we would love to hear peoples opinions on what we can do to help the biodiversity of our beautiful green space. This is open invitation to anyone who would love to come along and hear what the future holds for all manner of flora and fauna  in Radipole Park and Gardens. Join us at 7pm on Thursday 15th November at the Weymouth Centenary Club in Jubilee close where there's even free parking. (Areas of long grass and springtime wildflowers in Radipole gardens.) We'll also be joined by nature expert Sam Hamer...

How You Can Help Us Build Our Sensory Garden Without a Trug or Trowel in Sight

As a Friends group we hold events nearly all year round for all manner of reasons. One is to get people coming along and enjoy our beautiful park and gardens, you'd be surprised at how many that attend our events have absolutely no idea the gardens are here. (That also includes people who have driven past the avenue of trees lining Radipole Park Drive many times!) A lot of our events are completely free for everyone to enjoy such as the Halloween Hoolie and Cider Apple Pressing that we have just run in the gardens, where children and their parents/grandparents could come along and participate in all...

They Came… They Saw… They Cut, Created and Carved in Radipole gardens.

The sun shone down on us last Saturday, though the wind was a bit parky to say the least. But that didn't stop families coming out to enjoy our latest event put on in the gardens. Halloween Hoolie and Cider Apple Pressing. As time drew nearer to the event start, we were all set up and waiting, wondering if many people would be coming along on such a brisk day. We needn't have worried...

There’s One Heck of a Hoolie in Radipole Gardens; Halloween Hoolie and Cider Apple Pressing.

Well, it's that time of year again! Autumn is tugging at summer's sleeve, begging her to relinquish her grip on time. Worry not though we have a couple of events left in our calender. What would October be without a mention of all things Halloween. We've got that sorted. Saturday 27th October come along to Radipole gardens for our HALLOWEEN HOOLIE  and CIDER APPLE PRESSING. The first 20 children to arrive will find a pumpkin waiting for its makeover. Lots of bits and bobs to make your own Halloween decorations...

Discovering Images of Radipole Gardens Lost Past

Some might think that an odd title seeing as the gardens were only created during the 1930's, but if you're fan of good old Tony Robinson and Time Team, you'll know that sometimes it's easier to research, read and know more about centuries ago than it is our more recent history! Radipole park and gardens were created during the 1930's, a period between two World Wars, also a period of austerity and high unemployment. Schemes had been set up by the government of the day to enable councils to take advantage of cheap rate loans  to employ many of those men and women who were unable...

Success; Radipole Gardens Goes All Out in True Patriotic WWII style.

Well, that's the final big event of our year done and dusted and boy did we go out with bloody big bang in true patriotic WWII style! Greeting the crowds coming to our event was this Big Beast shown below. This monster vehicle was parked out in the tennis club car park (sadly minus the even bigger tracked beast who would have been on her back had she not blown something to do with oil.)  She guzzled approx £100 in fuel for owner Colvyn Gillmon just to get here here from Dorchester! Though our 1940's Big Fun Day was a cracking success, of course that only happens...
