Nurture Nature and Welcome Wildlife to Weymouth

Our next event is one that is packed with something for people of all ages and all interests in nature and wildlife.

Not only how we can help them but they help us.

Come along and meet many of the experts in their field and those volunteers who beaver away caring for local wildlife such as Hayley from Hayley’s Hedgehog Rescue.

Some of the other groups attending include the Dorset Mammal Group, Dorset Butterfly Conservation, Dorset Dragonflies and the Dorset Field Officer for Amphibians and Reptiles.

Dorset Bee Keepers will be on hand to tell us the best way we can these vital winged wonders.

Other organisations on site will include Dorset Wildlife Trust, Kingston Maurward and Sea Watch Foundation.

But of course, nature and wildlife benefits us just as much as we can help them, being in the outdoors has a positive effect on all of us and can improve mental and physical well-being.

The young ones will discover the delights of The Forest School, who will be setting up shop between the trees, with loads of fun activities.

For those of, shall we say somewhat more mature years, but still young at heart, Julie Hammon from Stepping into Nature will be happy to talk to you on how they are helping to deliver health and well-being benefits for Dorset’s older people, including those living with dementia and their carers.

They introduce ways that Dorset’s outstanding natural and cultural landscape can help to create and provide dementia friendly activities and sensory rich places to visit.

Adding to that will be the voices of a visiting choir who will be enchanting us with their Singing to the Sea.

Last, but certainly not least, not forgetting our furry four legged friends.

Linda from Dog Friendly Weymouth will be there to chat to people about the best places they can visit along with their doggy friends, from gardens and shops to cafes and beaches.

Of course, what would a nature and wildlife event be without the basics of life…plants, you’ll find those too at our event.

Lots of fun activities for everyone.

Come and meet us in our information tent where you can find out all about Radipole park and gardens. Marvel at the old images of this area when it was still part of the Backwater, see how it was constructed from the dredging of the lake bed.

Laugh at the photos from your childhood days of walking through Radipole gardens in your obligatory Clark’s sandals, or why nor bring your own along to show us, we’d love to see them and any other information about the history of our park and gardens.

Now also includes our Easter Egg Treasure Hunt (no, we haven’t scoffed all the eggs… though it’s been hard not to!) Guess the Name of the Bunny and Best Dressed Wildlife Hat competition, which will be judged at 1.30.
