Panic When it Comes to Pruning Your Pears? Fear Not. Join us on Tuesday 13th February 10-12 am.

Most people know about the beautiful Radipole gardens with their weeping willows and stunning flower beds…but many don’t realise that our park and gardens don’t just terminate at the tennis courts.

If you walk alongside these and on right to the far end of the play park you’ll find so much more.

In 2012 one the Friend’s group, Denis Williams, generously donated £500 towards creating a Community Orchard, the Friend’s group matched his donation and the free fruit bonanza began to take shape.

Weymouth & Portland Borough Council workers prepared the ground and the Woodland Trust provided ‘whips’ to create an enclosing hedgerow.

Then it was time for the hard graft to begin.

Friends picked up their spades and donned their wellies to join the trained arborists  from the council in starting the planting.

In the following digging frenzy a total of 38 fruiting trees were set in place, ranging from apples to quinces, cherries to cobnuts and all manner of crops in between.

Six years on and the Denis Williams Community Orchard is coming on a treat.

The Friends vision of fruit for free, there to be picked by everyone has come to..well…fruition!

Want to take a visual tour of the orchard…watch local Zzipp Media guru, Peter Lythgoe’s, vlog on the orchard and wildflower meadow.

Panic when pruning your pears?

Quiver when trimming your quinces?

Fear not.

On Tuesday February 13th, the Friends are running a demonstration in the Community Orchard of the correct way to prune your fruiting trees led by Andy, Radipole’s resident gardener.

Come join us in our Community Orchard
